When this question was first asked in 2010, there had been an outbreak of E coli in 2006 in which green onions were first implicated (and removed from the menu), then attention turned to the lettuce. They did not take lettuce off the menu, but the implicated lots of lettuce were recalled and Taco Bell switched lettuce suppliers.

Yes, all vegetables can contain e-coli if they come in contact with it. In 2006 Taco Bell had to pull all its onions because test showed they were infected. With the spread of CAFOs and commercial farming e-coli in are food has become extremely common.
