Earth's Precession
Yes. There have been several periods of cooling, generally known as ice ages, after which the earth warms up again. These are regular cycles, with cycle times of thousands of years, with very gradual changes in temperature. This differs from the present situation, in which average global temperatures are changing relatively rapidly and at an increasing rate, and in which temperature changes can not readily be associated with any of the natural cycles.
Technically, yes. Ice ages are not continuous periods of cold, but rather have cycles of colder glacial periods and warmer interglacial periods. We are currently in an interglacial period.
They occur world-wide, and seem to be part of a pattern not yet fully understood. There is also debate as to whether sunspot cycles have anything to do with them. The last ice age ended between 20 and 25 thousand years ago.
