  1. Madhusudan, motherland and mother tongue
  2. Michael Madhusudan Dutta (born 25 January 1824; died 29 June 183) was the first successful modern poet of Bengali literature. He initiated a revolutionary change in the subject and style of poetry.

The Indian version of Eastern and Western concepts, immense love for the motherland, the composition of epics, the creation and proper application of Amitrakshara rhymes, the composition of sonnets, the composition of letters, etc., reflecting his thoughts and creative endeavors have endowed Bengali literature with unprecedented dignity and beauty. He is also known for writing the first successful historical and tragedy plays in Bengali literature and the first stage plays. His Meghnadabadha Kavya is the first and in a sense the only epic of Bengali literature; Madhusudan is still an alternative personality in the creation and maintenance of sonnets in Bengali language! He has also shown the motivation of a guide in writing letters.

Madhusudan was born at a turning point in the history of Bengal. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, various changes took place in this land; He is a great auspicious time of Bengal renaissance! The influence of Europe-America education-civilization-culture-religion-philosophy-humanity-history etc. brought about a radical change in the life of Indians as a whole. The call for self-emancipation and the idea of emancipation from the movement then moved India. Madhusudan he was inspired by the waters; He assimilated those tendencies quite quickly. Besides, nineteenth century patriotism and desire for freedom also attracted him strongly.

Michael Madusudan Dutt's strong and seemingly unusual inclination towards Europe has been observed; He was desperate to leave Asia by any means. Of course, the reason behind this mental condition was the favorable climate of Europe in the practice of literature. English proficiency was Michael's special ability. At a young age, while in college, he was able to attract the attention of acquaintances and scholars because of this feature. He received special praise for translating Ramnarayan Tarkaratna's Ratnavati into English for the Kalakala Belgachhia Natyashala. Many believe that the poet Madhusudan converted to Christianity, especially because of his love of England; He also married a Christian woman. He changed his religion and added the word Michael before his name. In fact, this Bengali playwright-poet Shri Madhusudan Dutt was obsessed with presenting himself in the world of art beyond the borders of India and gaining fame. He also learned Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Telugu, French, German, Italian and studied Western classical literature. When Madhusudan was born, Persian was the official language of government in India. From 1835, English was introduced as the language of court and government work. Then naturally the demand for learning English began to increase! This simple fact, while reading Madhusudan's literature, we need to keep in mind.

Literature written by him: Drama: Sharmistha, Padmavati, What is the same as civilization, Roan on the neck of the old statue, Mayakanan Poetry: Rizia (Unfinished) Epic: Meghnadabadha Kavya; Book of Poems: Tilottamasambhav Kavya, Brajangana, Birangana, Chaturdasapadi Kavitabali. He has also written books in English. He also edited a magazine while in Madras. His first poem was Captive Lady; The book was not a success.

His poems were published in Calcutta before they were published in British newspapers in 1842; They, of course, were influenced by Byron-Shelley-Wordsworth-Richardson-Keats; Western love and attraction to blue-eyed women was the main basis of his creation-imagination at that time!

After 1848, while in Madras (working as an assistant headmaster of a school; although there was no headmaster at that school and there was only one post), he worked hard to study different languages and literature.

He and his readers are well aware of the fact that his attempt to pursue literature in English at that time, ignoring Bengali, later failed. We know the emotional feeling of getting closer to his dream country on the way to England from a letter written to his friend Gourdas. The poet writes: “O my dear and old friend. I was on a ship called Ceylon. I'll write you a few umbrellas now, my dear! Yesterday I was in Malta, last Sunday in Alexandria. And I hope to reach England in just a few days. Twenty-two days ago today I was in Calcutta. Tell us what we are going quite fast? But there is also a sad side to this journey. All will know, be patient, be patient, friend.
