Peter Skene Ogden was a Canadian fur trader and explorer who played a significant role in the western expansion of North America. He worked for the Hudson's Bay Company and later the American Fur Company. Ogden explored and mapped large parts of the Pacific Northwest, including present-day Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. He was known for his skills as a hunter and trader, and his expeditions helped establish important fur trading outposts in the region.
Peter Skene Ogden used canoes, horses, and dog sleds on his explorations in the Pacific Northwest. Canoes were used for travel by waterways, while horses were used for overland journeys. Dog sleds were utilized in winter for transportation in snowy conditions.
Peter Skene Ogden married Marie Comtois in 1826 and Julia Rivet in 1834. Both marriages took place during his time in the fur trade and exploration in the Pacific Northwest. Ogden's relationships reflect the social dynamics of the era, as he navigated both professional and personal lives in a rapidly changing frontier.
