The world has (and once had many) tarpits of natural tar and oil, and the wood Noah used was wood soaked in it for years. In fact they trusted this stuff because when sealing the door with tar and oil, the ark was then lifted by 40 feet of water that very day and its draught of 22 feet into the water covered that 2nd floor door with water. Further, the claim that gopher wood is not a type of tree but the tar treatment seems to be proven by the fact that inside the ark are many walls that were made not of wood but of reeds also soaked with this tar.
