Yes, both males and females of any age can be diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder, though it is more common among males. There are roughly 4 males with autism for every 1 female with autism
Jim Sinclair founded the Autism Network International in 1992 in attempts to provide peer support, and help with coping with autism and aiding in problem-solving. The organization is actually run by people who suffer from autism.

No - no one can 'get rid' of autism. Autism is a neurological difference...the only way to 'get rid' of autism then would be to 'get rid' of a persons brain, which obviously isn't an option. Although autism can be a disability for many it can also be an advantage to many, even if a 2 year old is severely affected by their autism they may improve over time.

The word autism was first coined in the year 1908. Official studies on children began in the year 1943.

my daughter's teacher was unfamiliar with autism also so the school funded for an autism specialist to come into the classroom and help her to learn. Which was great for her and her teacher. but I think and this is just speaking as a parent that you should also keep the parent(s) very involved and ask them if there are certain things you can do to make their child more comfortable, or how to handle a fit etc. That's how my daughters education was last year and it was her first successful year of school, and it was the first where I really felt like someone cared enough about her to work with her.
Some are while others are not. They vary, as does the entire population.Comment:I know a 20 year old boy with autism who is overweight.
