Jamestown, founded in 1607, was the first successful permanent English settlement in what would become the United States.
The settlers grew tobacco as their cash crop. This got them a lot of money.
The settlers wanted to live a life in America, and the founders wanted to find gold and natural resources to trade and become rich.
One thing is that Jamestown was named after King James of Europe.
Settlers in the Jamestown colony became landowners primarily through the headright system, which was established by the Virginia Company in 1618. This system granted land to individuals who financed their own passage to America, as well as to those who brought additional settlers, effectively rewarding them with parcels of land (typically 50 acres) for each person they sponsored. Additionally, land could be acquired through the successful cultivation of tobacco, which became the colony's lucrative cash crop. This incentivized settlement and agricultural development, allowing settlers to establish ownership over their cultivated land.
On November 5 1612, a Thanksgiving dinner was held at Jamestown, Virginia. It was in honor of the arrival of Governor Dale with a ship-load of girls who were to become the wives of the settlers.
The crop that helped Jamestown become more successful was tabacco, because they sold it for pipes. Many people enjoyed this sensation, and bought it, which brought in money for the people of Jamestown. ~E VanDe
On Christmas 1606 London Company sent 3 ships, the Discovery, Susan Constant and Godspeed with 104 settlers. They landed on April 26, 1607 in what would become Jamestown. Only 35 of the 104 would survive the first 7 months.

Jamestown was England's first settlement in what would become Virginia.
English became the official language of the United States through the adoption of the English language in the 18th century when the nation gained independence. Additionally, the first English settlers in the early 17th century established English as the predominant language in the American colonies.
