Arthur Rose Eldred, the first recipient of the BSA's Eagle Scout award, attended Oceanside School in New York. He was the first to receive the Regent's Certificate after it was approved as a high school and became known as Oceanside Senior High School.

He earned the award in 1912 just 2 years after the formation of the BSA. This was possible because at the time the ranks of Life Scout and Start Scout did not exist. He earned it by earning 21 merit badges after becoming a first Class Scout.
