The American war with Britain (War of 1812) was officially ended on Dec. 24 with the Treaty of Ghent. But this was not until after the British, during the peace negotiations, burned down landmarks in the captured city of Washington D.C.; including but not limited to the White House and the Library of Congress.
On November 11, 1889 Washington became an official state of the USA.
