At the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Catherine), the congregation joined in the singing of Guide me o thou great redeemer (a hymn sung at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales), Love Divine all loves excelling and Jerusalem (an age old song, performed at patriotic events in the UK).
Hymns sung at Pentecost include: Come down O love Divine, Spirit of the Living God and Love Divine.
The are a vast number of "hymns", songs and musical pieces that may be sung at a church wedding, therefore it is almost impossible to list all the hymns that would be acceptable. The hymns/songs that are not acceptable are secular in nature. ie: "You light up my life" had been a favorite of many a bride. The is not appropriate, being hedonistic in tone. The last line being "How can it be so wrong if it feels so right?"
Hymns are sung in the church to praise and glorify god.
Songs that are sung in Church are usually Hymns although Psalms are also sung.
Caroling originated from hymns sung in churches, since Christmas was originally a religious holiday.
for joyfulness
Christians sing hymns, because its a bit like singing a prayer ! x
