The theory of Pangea. It has somthing to do the a shift in the techtonic plates that caused the landmasses to separate I do believe.
Continental drift
Pangea. Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift, that the landmasses of the Earth were connected and slowly drifted apart, in 1912. His justifications for his theory included how the various continents looked like they could fit together and proposed that either centrifugal force of the Earth's rotation or astronomical precession were the forces behind the drift.
Alfred Wegner's theory of continental drift stated that the continents were all once together but over time have drifted apart.

Continental drift
Wegener couldn't explain how or why continents moved.
A hypothesis proposed by German scientist Alfred wegner which states the continents have moved, or drifted, from one location to another over time.
Pangea was the giant supercontinental landmass that existed on the Earth's surface about 250 million years ago. It was essentially all of the present continents 'stuck together' in one large grouping. It is proposed by plate tectonics that the movement of tectonic plates moved portions of this landmass apart and around the world, forming the present continents in their existing distribution.
the scientist proposed a theory after hypothesis.
Yes, and No. Historically, Europe and Asia are classified as separate continents even though they lie within the same landmass. However, alternative classifications have proposed a combined Eurasian continent, just as a combined Americas has been suggested in place of the traditional North American and South American continents.
A hypothesis (plural hypotheses) is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon
Wegener's hypothesis (1912) is called the continental drift, in which he proposed the hypothesis that Earth's continents were moving, and that 200 MYA, there was only a big landmass called the Pangaea. Too bad he didn't have enough facts to back up this guess, so people thought he had a drug overdose or somethings and laughed him off. Wegener's hypothesis later developed into the modern theory of plate tectonics: the lithosphere is divided into plates that are constantly moving, pumping into each other and causing earth quakes.
