Then it is more than likely blind in that eye and may need surgery, you never know...lol. Like i said it is probably blind in that eye and the reason it could have fell off is that it might be dehydrated or its cage is not as moist and humid as it should be.

1. Hermit crabs are able to go outside if the temperature is between 70*F and 90*F. 2. Hermit crabs like heat and humidity. 3. If you get more than 1 hermit crab then their shells need to all be the same sizes because if 1 hermit crab has a bigger shell than that crab will kill the smaller ones. 4. You need to keep a good eye on the crabs because if you let the crabs roam around on your floor while not looking they might get away and that would be a super bad problem. 5. And make sure that they have food and water in their cages every day. 6. Never put them in a bowl full of lots of water because then they will drown and do not ever put hermit crabs in chlorine. 7. And pay lots of attention to your hermit crabs.Love on them and make them feel good.

Can hermit crabs go blind?

Marine and Land hermit crabs both have eyes with which to see. Their vision is believed to not be very sharp. Moving shadows will cause a land hermit crab to retreat into his shell, as he interprets this as a possible predator who may be coming to eat him. Hermit crabs do not have ears, however, and are extremely sensitive to vibrations. Their antennae sense vibrations and scents in the air, and this is how they interpret their safety and where they should go to find food.

How does having eyes on a stalk helps crabs to see?

Having eye stalks assists vision by not only granting a much larger field of view when extended, but enabling alterations to the field of view as they change the stalk angle. It also creates a problem of protecting the now more vulnerable eyes when extended, which crabs handle by retracting the eyes under the carapace or simply closer to the head as a defensive measure when they come under attack by predators or other hostile crabs. They effect the extension or retraction of the eye by altering the fluid pressure in the eye stalk. Interestingly enough, studies tend to indicate eye stalks do have other functions not related to vision, such as production of hormones responsible for growth, moulting, and reproduction.
