Not necessarily. Hermit crab do spend some time sitting to destress or simply take a nap. If a hermit crab is completely unresponsive it may be a number of problems but first check your humidity and temperature as they can be early culprits of inactivity.

:/ I own 5 crabs and their all active during day. Now there could be three reasons it won't move. 1) it is scared of you therefor you need to hold it in your hand and hold it still so it might open up. 2) molting- nothing to fix there it's a natural process. 3) it's dead . Now to check if it is dead you pick it up and see if it is limp or fall Ng out of it's shell. Next smell it. Crabs give off a Nast odor when they die. Hope this helps

If your hermit crab never moves, this could mean that it's comfortable. It could also mean that it is too big for it's shell and it can't move.

It is not an emergency your hermit crab is probably just molting or sleeping. Make sure that it has enough food, water, and lots of love and care.

When do you know when you hermit crab is going to die?

You will know when your hermit crab is about to die because it will not move in the shell. When it is not moving it starts to fall out of its shell. Like my hermit crabs 2 of them died and now I only have 1. The first and second one did the same thing of course but they both fell out. You also know when a hermit crab dies, when they a pale or there skin is different. They will not hide into there shell at all. Hopefully your hermit crabs are in good health like mine were!!!

What happens if a hermit crabs shell get to little?

If your land hermit crab's shell gets to small get a new shell. The shell hole should be the same size as your crab's big claw or bigger Make sure your crab's new shell is clean. DO NOT FORCE YOU CRAB TO COME OUT! All you have to do is set your crab's new shell in it's cage and wait.

Why is your hermit crab trying all day to get out of his shell?

Because he doesn't fit his old shell (too small) and he needs a new shell.

What does the the head of a hermit crab look like?

Like all shell-bearing creatures, a hermit crab also sheds its shell when it has grown too big to fit it. In the place of the old shell, a new shell has already started growing. The hermit crab has a very soft abdomen or 'tail' as it is generally referred to. It is folded under the body. Nevertheless the shell of the hermit crab does not protect its tail as is the case with all other crabs. After shedding its old shell, the hermit crab keeps the empty shell with itself taking full utility of it as a portable shelter, which could come in handy, if it has to fight with another crab for a more attractive home. This leads to situations sometimes where the homeseeker crab actually succeeds in kicking the original homeowner out of the home and instead eats it up and takes over the shell. The claws of the hermit crab are not equal in size. One of the claws is always bigger than the other one. Having a spiral shaped abdomen, the hermit crab moves in and out of the shell with a stride that is virtually spiral. Well, hermit crabs look like a crab in a shell. they have 2 claws, one big one for defence, one small one for scavenging or eating.they have antenea that shoot around like an insects if the animal is healthy.4 legs I think all around the same size.

When is a hermit crab ready for a bigger shell?

Hermit Crab, a land- or water-dwelling crustacean. Unlike true crabs, hermit crabs have soft, vulnerable abdomens. For protection from predators, many hermit crabs seek out abandoned shells, usually snail shells. When a hermit crab finds one of the proper size, it pulls itself inside, leaving several legs and its head outside the shell. (A hermit crab has five pairs of legs, but not all of them are fully developed.) A hermit crab carries the shell wherever it goes. When it outgrows its shell, it switches to a larger one. Most adult hermit crabs are from 1/2 inch (13 mm) to 4 3/4 inches (121 mm) long. Living on the seashore, in tidepools, and on the sea bottom in deeper water, hermit crabs scavenge their food.

Why is your hermit crab in his shell all day?

When does a hermit crab change its shell?

What type of land crabs are best to buy?

* It's best to buy a hermit crab with a natural shell rather than a painted one if possible. The paint from hermit crab shells often flakes off over time and can be eaten by the crab. The paint flakes can also find their way inside the shell and can irritate the crab's skin. Some crabs have even had paint flakes puncture their skin. * Before a hermit crab is brought home, all of the necessary hermit crab care items should also be bought if the pet owner doesn't already have them. These include several hermit crab shells of various sizes, a sponge for his water, hermit crab food and a large enough cage to house the crab and all of his supplies. == == anymore questions?? contact me at bubbliciousbridgette@yahoo.com
