It is very possible to learn spelling - no matter how old you are. The best way that I have found is to use a program called All About Spelling. It teaches the rules for spelling in a fun and easy way. From the very young, to the older student, you can use the techniques provided to teach or learn.

If you would like to do better on spelling tests then make sure that you learn word origins. If you learn the origins then you will have an easier time figuring out how to spell a lot of words.

Bad spelling is a sign of not taking the time to learn a few rules that will help you learn, remember how to spell those hard words to. Take an extra class on improving your spelling. Anyone can learn how to spell and read better if they want to. You can too. You are smart because your concerned about it. I wanted to add that many spelling errors people make is because they are not pronouncing the words properly.
