What if you have no backpressure on a motor?
Asked in Hobbies & Collectibles, Powerboats
What happens if an inboard boat motor is under water?
If it's waterproofed and you've got snorkels on your intakes and exhausts then you should be okay... Otherwise, you know when your your car engine is underwater? Yeah, that... backpressure from the exhaust keeps the water out, but if the backpressure goes the water will rush up the exhaust, flood your cylinders and it's impossible to restart until it's dried out So basically if you're waterproofed your fine, if not then start paddling

Will putting a lower restriction single inlet dual outlet exhaust system on your truck harm the engine in the future or lower the overall life of the truck?
Not as long as your aftermarket exhaust is keeping backpressure in your system. Backpressure keeps the pistons from creating a vacuum in your exhaust and actually sucking harmful substances back into the chamber before the exhaust valve in the head can fully close, but keep your backpressure, save your engine.
If i need a new muffler on my Honda civic will it affect the idle rpms?

What do you mean by back pressure in condenser?
Condenser Backpressure is the difference between the Atmospheric Pressure and the Vacuum Reading of the Condenser, that is: Backpressure = Atm. Pressure - Condenser Vacuum Pressure Reading Usually, the condenser vacuum pressure is read by a manometer installed at the condenser. The atmospheric pressure is read using a barometer

What causes a catalytie converter to turn red in a 1997ford f150 pickup?
How do you fix a poor acceleration and idling problem?
I experienced poor acceleration in my '95 Chevy blazer, which eventually became so severe that when accelerating, the engine nearly stalled. It turned out that my catalytic converter was disintegrating, and choking off the exhaust so severely that the backpressure was causing engine retardation. I took the vehicle to a muffler shop, where they performed a backpressure test on the exhaust to diagnose the problem. After replacing the catalytic converter, the problem was corrected.

Asked in Hyundai, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Excel
How difficult is it to put a 2 liter Hyundai Accent motor into a 1997 Hyundai Excel?
2 To be honest if you oversize your exhaust on an N/A car then you risk reducing the "backpressure" to the engine and hence reduce the overall performance. Just by changing the backbox on a 1995 to 1999 Hyundai Accent / Excell on a stock engine will change the "power band" from about 2k RPM to about 4k RPM. By getting the TB mod you will hopefully negate the larger exhaust backpressure reduction, but for a 2.0 litre conversion you will need to referr to www.performancehyundai.com ;) I put a 2L late model excel engine in my 92 excel(1.8L) not sure the difference between elantra and excel but all i did was kept the original "juicy bits" like radiator ECU and gearbox ect. and everythign fit perfectly, no over pressure or anything.

Asked in Honda Del Sol
Test Drove a Del Sol today and it was a complete dog. How bad does the lack of exhaust from the header back hurt the power on a 94 Honda Del Sol with a d16 sohc engine?
probable quite a bit, due to a lack of backpressure... smaller engines need a reasonable amount of backpressure on the exhaust system, and if it was a Del Sol S, then it's gonna be a dog no matter what you do to it, but if it was a Del Sol Si, than it should have a reasonable amount of power, because the car is very light...
