For some reason it seems he cares what "the guys" think and wants to seem manly however that makes him manly but guys say things to make them seem cool and whether we disagree with it or not they still do it. I wouldn't read too much into it nor should you let it bother you - its just childish behaviour until they are able to find guys they can be themselves around and truthful - its not always this way.
