The lifters have some pretty tight tolerances to make them work.
Some have a snap ring on top of the plunger. Take them apart ONE AT A TIME and wash with solvent.
If they have no snap ring, try running carb cleaner through the hole in the side and out the top.
Some lifters are not too expensive (about $10/apiece) so you might think about replacing them.
Others are not too hard to change, so you might get by putting them back in and changing the noisy ones if you have to.
If they're just full of mayonaise oil, put them back in. Normal pressurized oil flow will clean them out.
If they sat too long and rusted, you should bite the bullet and replace them. I see a lot of engines with blown head gaskets that sat for awhile full of water. Some need total rebuilds due to rust and pitting of close tolerance parts, but could have been done cheaply if the rust had not started. The water/antifreeze by itself is not really the issue.
The most effective way to clean valve lifters is to disassembled the vehicle's top end and remove the lifters. They can then be cleaned with a mild solvent, lubricated, and re-installed.
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I CAN USE TO CLEAN MY YELLOWED REFRIGERATOR GASKET THANKS
Clean, safe, healthy
The white smoke could be valve stem seals. The overheating could be a partially blocked radiator. Don't bother trying chemicals to clean it out. Take the radiator to a shop and have them professionally clean it. could be a blowen head gasket!
Clean contaminated fuel tanks
salt
it could be a faulty gage or a bad oil pump
Sometimes putting a jug of transmission fluid in your oil will clean the junk out of your lifters and stop your noise - if it is an older vehicle with adjustable rockers you can adjust and get rid of the knock.
Antonyms of Contaminated (depending upon use) could be Decontaminated, Sanitized, Sanitary, Pristine, Pure, Clean, Disinfected.
Sterialization or aseptic technique
You can change the head gasket by removing the valve cover. Remove the gasket and clean the gasket surface. Put the new head gasket on the cleaned surface.
