The dimes minted before the FDR dimes were called "Mercury Dimes." They showed an Image of Lady Liberty wearing a cap with wings on it, and named after the Roman mythical figure "Mercury," the messenger god. It is important to note, however, that the myhical Mercury actually had wings on his feet.
