About One Percent ot the Hugenots managed to escape to new homelands beyond the borders. Certainly they had to escape without all of their wealth, but they retained the knowledge, skills, drive and incentive to become valuable citizens in any part of the world. France's loss was a net gain for other countries well beyond mere population numbers. That tiny percentage of the population were educated, dedicated and productive individuals whose skills were lost to France for generations.
