Lexapro, also known as Escitalopram is an antidepressant which blocks specific potassium channels in the CNS. While most specific to the HERG channel (Kv11.1) it has also been shown to effect Kv2.1 and Kv2.2 as well as Kv1.5 potassium channels

What is the physical mechanism leading to the electrical impulse action potential in an axon?

It is called depolarization and happens when sodium and/or calcium ions enter the cell rapidly through their respective voltage-dependent ion channels or potassium ions stop leaving the cell through their ion channels or chloride ions stop entering the cell through their ion channels.

How is the K transmembrane flux when neurone hyperpolarizes?

The potassium ion channels in the cell open with hyperpolarization (injecting a negative current to take the cell potential more negative than Ek) The potassium ion channels in the cell open with hyperpolarization (injecting a negative current to take the cell potential more negative than Ek)

Describe the events occurring in the cell membrane that permit the conduction of an impulse?

When a nerve impulse is conducted, the neuronal cell membrane undergoes changes in electrical potential. This starts with a rapid influx of sodium ions into the cell through voltage-gated sodium channels, depolarizing the membrane. This depolarization triggers the opening of adjacent sodium channels, resulting in an action potential that travels along the membrane. After the impulse passes, the sodium channels close, and potassium channels open, allowing potassium ions to exit the cell and restore the resting potential.

Why is potassium ion permeability 100 times more in rmp?

Permeability of an ion is dependent on three factors: the number of channels, how long the channels stay open, and conductance (how easily it can pass through the channel). Potassium or K has a large permeability because K channels are much slower (compared to Na) to close, ie. they stay open longer. The high permeability of K is what maintains the resting membrane potential at ~-70mV.
