The ratio of the primary winding turns to the secondary winding turns. This governs voltage which is directly related to the current and load.

Answer

A transformer increases or decreases voltage, notcurrent. The secondary current is determined by the load, and the secondary current determines the primary current. If there is no load, then there is no secondary current, and the primary current is mainly made up of the magnetising current.

Why do we need a transformer if we use a welding machine?

A welder requires high current at the expense of voltage, The transformer reduces the voltage allowing a higher current to operate the welsing machine.

If resistance goes up does current go down?

At constant temp.& pressure,on the same circuit, with potential difference unchanged, current reduces if resistance increases.(Ohm's law).

What is a definition of grid station?

it is a station which reduces high voltage to low voltage and increases current.

How current transformer measure current?

A current transformer doesn't 'measure current'. It merely reduces a large current flowing through its primary to a smaller current which can be read by an ammeter connected to its secondary. At the same time, it electrically isolates the secondary circuit from the primary circuit, which is essential if the primary circuit is part of a high-voltage system.

If the frequency is drop What will happens a step up transformer?

If the frequency drops, then overall impedence reduces and hence the current tend to increase, leading to over heating and ultimately may damage the transformer

What is a Current Reversing Transformer?

This is a transformer built into electrical appliance to make electricity meter to stop reading or made to read in reverse order. This reduces the consumption reading and cheats the system. That is bad.

What is transformer w?

Transformer is a electric device which it can be used for to transfer the ac current one circuit to another i.e. To reduces voltage and without frequency changing. Many types of transformer available in various purpose i.e. Stepup transformer, stepdowntransformer ,autotransformer ,,,,,,,etc answered by arivukkarasu.a

What class is a transformer that converts 110 volts to 24 volts?

A transformer that reduces voltage is classed as a step down transformer.

Why secondary terminal voltage decreases with increase in load?

An increase in load (equivalent to a decrease in resistance*) causes an increase in load current. This increases the internal voltage drop within the transformer, and the terminal voltage reduces accordingly.[*An increase in load means more current is being drawn by that load, so an increase in load is equivalent to a decrease in load resistance]

How does a high frequency induction motor work?

In a high frequency induction motor, EMF is induced leading to current flow. Torque in the rotor coil increases. As frequency increases, Impedance of the Rotor increases and currency reduces.

What happens to the current as the voltage is increased by the step up transformer?

Compare a transformer to a balancing act. Both side need to remain equal. The primary side of the transformer is the supply side and the load is connected to the secondary side of the transformer. The load governs the current of the secondary side of the transformer and the voltage of the secondary side must match the voltage that the load required to operate. The ratio of the transformer will determine what the voltage of the secondary side is as compared to the voltage that has to be applied to the primary. The current of a step up transformer will be higher on the primary side that that of the secondary.Apply voltage and current to this concept and you will see that the transformer will remain balanced. The size of the transformer is always calculated from the secondary side of the transformer and the value is written in VA or KVA where V = voltage and A = amperage. Power factor is also taken into consideration when calculating the size of the transformer to be used.

Which type of transformer is used in sonometer?

A sonometer is used to determine the frequency of alternating current. A step down transformer is used for the determination of frequency of A.C. because the voltage of the A.C. mains is 220V, which is dangerous. The step down transformer reduces this voltage to 6 volts.
