First.... he was one of 3 designers of the reconstruction of the Clock Tower that houses Big Ben (The largest of the bells in the clock tower) and the Palace of Westminster after the fire of 1834. He made working drawings for Charles barry to design with. His part was help with detailings, fittings and furniture. I believe his inspiration came from Charles Barry woh won the job from open competition. Pugin cared little for the gothic styles but worked under Charles barry to get the reconstruction completed. answer: Charles Barry and his restoration project inspired him, not his taste but Pugin simply did his work as a job. I say motivation more than inspiration. Skunkfarmer
Augustis Pugin did design Big Ben. Big Ben is in the Palace of Westminster and is the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and the 3rd tallest free standing tower.
yes but Charles barry took credit for it
When you search up "who designed big ben", it says Edmund Beckett Denison did, why is that?
Charles Barry and Augustus Welby Pugin.
Sir Charles Barry aided aided by the Gothic architect Augustus Pugin
The style of the tower is Gothic. The Victorian architect Augustus Pugin styled the tower.
When the Palace of Westminster was to be rebuilt after it was destroyed in 1834 a committee was set up with a competition to find a suitable design. Charles Barry won with his design but he was later asked to add a clock tower to it so it was revised. With the help of Augustus Pugin the tower we still see today was designed and later built.
Sir Charles Barry won an open competition to design the new Palace of Westminster and the Big Ben Clock Tower after the fire in 1834. Pugin was hugely involved in the design of the Palace and the clock faces, especially the interiors. Pugin was a visionary architect and designer himself and actually his much beloved style was Gothic. Gothic was not the style at the time it was Neo-Classical. Pugin was one of the most important elements of the Gothic Revival. It is widely known that the building could not have been a success had it not been for the collaboration between the vastly different styles of Barry, a classicist, and Pugin, a Gothic. And Pugin died before Barry, having devoted his life to promotion and appreciation of all things Gothic.
Sir Charles Barry drew the designs, and architect Edward Pent and his son Frederick Pent built it.
Big Ben was designed by Edmund Beckett Denison. And it was built by Messrs E.J. Dent and Co. Sir Charles Barry drew the designs, and architect Edward Pent and his son Frederick Pent built it.Charles Barry, chief architect turned to Augustus Pugin to help design the tower and clock dials in his neo-gothic style. It was pugin's last major work before he went mad then died aged 40. Charles Barry also died as it was nearing completion. The tower took 16 years to build and was finished and working in 1859. In 2009 it celebrated 150 years.See the related link below for more information on Augustus Welby Northbourne Pugin.
