He set the example (Luke 4:43-44)(Matthew 4:23)and then left the Christian Congregation in charge of preaching to the entire earth, teaching people about God's Kingdom (Matthew 24:14)(Acts 5:42) (Acts 20:18-21) and making disciples ("taught ones")(Luke 6:40), who would become 'footstep followers' of Christ.
