Actually drums were first as ancient mankind used log drums before they had developed the tools needed to whittle or carve wind instruments such as the flutes in wood, bone, or reed that later developed into Recorder. Recorders were professionally made 700 years ago and modern drums, well, not so long ago. But drums of animal skins, or wood drums, are in evidence long before the instrument known as the Recorder.
