Abstinence means refraining from sex. So abstinence education (I assume you are talking about in school) would mean that the teacher is going to teach abstinence as opposed to how to use condoms and birth controls and other contraceptive methods.
A United States federal program to fund abstinence only sex education was initiated in 1996. The concept has been around for a lot longer, of course.
Education, abstinence, and condoms
That depends on the school board's sex education policy in your area.
Abstinence cannot be bought in a traditional sense, as it refers to the voluntary choice to refrain from certain activities, typically sexual intercourse. Individuals can choose abstinence for various reasons, including personal, religious, or health-related beliefs. While abstinence education programs or resources may be purchased, the commitment to abstain is a personal decision made by individuals.
President Obama understands that abstinence is the only proven way to avoid pregnancy (other than getting sterilized). But he also understands science, and he also understands reality. States that have abstinence-only education also have high rates of teen pregnancy, and contrary to partisan myths, it is fairly obvious that abstinence-only education does not work. As a parent, I am sure he would prefer that teens abstain, but as a realist, he understands that many teens will not. Thus, to avoid teen pregnancy, it is important for students to understand all the choices they have, and to behave responsibly. This means using contraception if and when they engage in sexual activity. The president has advocated for fact-based courses, and for students being given accurate information about all aspects of sex education: teaching about abstinence is one element of such a program, but so is teaching about delaying the age of having sex, and so is discussing the importance of contraception.
Example : Maria and her friends are practicing abstinence. They think abstinence is the key.
Abstinence-only education can promote values of self-control and responsibility, and may delay sexual activity. However, it may limit students' knowledge of safe sex practices and contraception, potentially leading to uninformed decision-making about sexual health.
There is no opposing viewpoint in most cases-just a misunderstanding for religous zealots who preach abstinence. they fail to realize sex ed not only teaches biology and birth control methods but is generally in favor of abstinence just like they are, but at the same time realistic about the fact that most will not abstain and addresses that as well.
Abstinence refers to the practice of refraining from indulging in certain behaviors or activities, most commonly related to the consumption of food, alcohol, or sexual activity. It often involves self-control and discipline, typically for health, religious, or personal reasons. In sexual education, abstinence is promoted as a method to prevent sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.
The best form of birth control in abstinence.
An abstinence of war is an obsolete phrase for a truce.
The Abstinence was created on 1996-11-21.
