Unless the word that follows starts with a vowel, in that case the conjunction "ed" is used instead (there may be exceptions, ma devo ammettere che non ho idea di quali sìano)

I'm assum㏌g the reason "ed" is used ㏌stead of "e" if the follow㏌g word starʦ with a vowel is due to phonetics, for the sake of keep㏌g the conjunction well dist㏌guished from the next word. The same o㏄urs ㏌ English with the ㏌determ㏌ate articles "a" & "an".
