A Rose For Emily is a story by William Faulkner that takes place in the fictional town of Jefferson, Mississippi. It follows the increasingly insane life of Emily Grierson, a spinster. After the death of her father, which she did not deal with well, she becomes friendly with a man named Homer who is well below her social standing. Despite a rather painful and horrid reunion with her family, she and Homer agree to be wed. The last time anyone sees Homer, he is entering her home at night. For years, Emily becomes more and more recluse-like, and is at once hated and loved by the town until the day of her death. At that time, the townsfolk enter her home to discover what it was that had kept her locked away for so long. Breaking down the only locked door in the home, they discover the long decomposed body of Homer in a bed that Emily had obviously been sleeping in also.
