Bob Ewell says that he is going to "get him" if it is the last thing he does. This is used to expose Bob Ewell's response to the result of the verdict. It demonstrates Bob Ewell threatening Atticus. Bob represents some of the white community's reactions to the outcome.

So he found the further revenge by attacking the children one Halloween night when the children are coming home from a pageant. He tries to kill Jem but only succeeds in breaking his arm. Boo Radley hears the cries of help from Jem and Scout and comes and stabs Mr. Ewell to death. But by this time, the children were unconscious.
He threatened him by stopping him out side the post office, spitting in his face, and saying he will do anything to get revenge on him, even if it takes him the rest of his life.
Bob Ewell's daughter, Mayella never gets any form of affection from her father as he is lazy, violent, and always drunk, and she has no friends, and in the 1930's black men were not allowed to be with a white girl (The Ewell's were white) and So Mayella tried to kiss Tom Robinson (who was black) and he knew he would be the one to get in trouble. Bob Ewell caught Mayella trying to kiss Tom, and Bob bashed her, so she said tom was the one that raped her, and beat her up.
Anyway, Atticus took on the court taking Toms side, and proved Mayella and Bob Ewell wrong, and liars and yeah, so Ewell wants revenge because of that, even though they won the court case just cause Tom was African-American.
When Bob Ewell spits into Atticus' face, Atticus simply says that he wishes Bob Ewell wouldn't chew tabacco. Does anyone happen to know what page this is on??
