Bristol is an old port full of history. It's very diverse with each suburbs having it's own character. It's often referred to locally as the city of Brunel, Banksy, Bridges and Balloons. Meaning the famous engineer IK Brunel, the graffiti artist Banksy (who recently got an Oscar nomination), the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the annual Balloon Fiesta. It's a massively underrated city that despite it's size is often overlooked, I reckon. It's easy to get to -about 2 hours on the train from London Paddington or it has it's own airport. There are loads of interestings bars, restaurants and clubs, so it's got a pretty good night life, especially during term time and the 2 unis, UWE and Bristol Uni.
Bristol is a port city in the South West of England. It's an amazing mix of old and new - beautiful Georgian buildings mixed with brilliant nightlife (Bristol is particularly well known for it's drum and bass scene) and fantastic culture (Banksy being one of the most famous exports!)
My favourite part of Bristol is Clifton Village - beautiful architecture and amazing pubs right beside the famous suspension bridge. If you need somewhere to stay try www.cliftonhotels.com - I stayed at The Rodney for a university open day and it was really lovely!
Hope this helps :-)
You can do a lot in Bristol. There's Bristol zoo, the suspension bridge in Clifton Village, plenty of bars and restaurants, including Jamie's Italian which just opened on Park Street. There's Cabot Circus and the Mall at Cribbs Causeway, as well as the International Balloon Festival during August. There's also the Bristol Gallery and Museum where Banksy held his world renowned exhibition last summer.
