∙ 16y agoThe "English Sytem" or "Imperial System"....actually England uses the metric system...do not exist. At least it is not a system. A system of measurements has some correspondences and logical connections between units. For example: How many gallons are in a cubic yard? There is no system for this, only some arcane method to figure it out (with some difficulty). You could only call this a system for "Customary US Liquid Measures". Whereas I can tell you there are 1000 liters in a cubic meter quite easily. I can also tell you it weighs 1000 kilograms. Trick question: "What is the official measurement system of the US?" Answer: The ISO Metric system has been the official measurement system of the US since 1866. There is no other official system. Colloquial units are merely a collection, a hodge-podge of units. It breaks my heart that schools still use them.
