California has falls in several different climate designation. Along the coast, west of the Sierra mountain range, California has a maritime climate. This means that the climate is regulated by the ocean, which results in temperatures between about 50 and 75 degrees year round.

East of the Seirras, California has a continential climate. Temperatures are much higher as this area falls in a desert resulting from the mountain's rainshadow. Continental climates generally have much higher annual and diurnal (daily) temperature fluxtuations.
