According to Aaron Newt, Cooro's mother died and was eaten by crows. Cooro was born with the crow plus anima and he "wanted to fly away to the heavens with his mother." After that he gave out and fell through the roof of the church. Cooro's story is basically told after that in the story(plus anima volumes 1-9). Fly tells Cooro that Aaron Newt made Cooro as a manmade plus anima, obviously that's a lie.
