Is Tourette's syndrome real?

Yes, I have Tourette's Syndrome and trust me it is as real as the computer I typed this on. However, not all people with Tourette's have copralalia (compulsive swearing), and that is considered (for no reason only about 8% of sufferers have coprolalia) the hallmark symptom.

What are the signs and side effects of Tourette's Syndrome?

The only real way to diagnose the condition is to talk to a specialist, but in general, tourettes is characterized by an involuntary tic, noise or speech pattern. The popular concept of Tourette's is involuntary verbal expression, in some cases as incoherent words or offensive ones. Most Tourette's cases do not include such unusual speech. What are eyes turrets?

Tourette syndrome (also called Tourette's syndrome, Tourette's disorder, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, GTS or, more commonly, simply Tourette's or TS) is an HeredityNeuropsychiatrydisorder with onset in childhood, characterized by multiple physical (motor) Ticand at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically wax and wane. Tourette's is defined as part of a Spectrum_disorderof Tic_disorder, which includes transient and chronic tics.Tourette's was once considered a rare and bizarre Syndrome, most often associated with the exclamation of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks (Coprolalia), but this symptom is present in only a small minority of people with Tourette's.Tourette's is no longer considered a rare condition, but it may not always be correctly identified because most cases are classified as mild. Between 1 and 10 children per 1,000 have Tourette's; as many as 10 per 1,000 people may have tic disorders, with the more common tics of eye blinking, coughing, throat clearing, sniffing, and facial movements. Tourette's does not adversely affect intelligence or Life_expectancy. The severity of the tics decreases for most children as they pass through adolescence, and extreme Tourette's in adulthood is a rarity.

Why are people inappropriate?

The reasons people act inappropriately vary. The reasons include:Immaturity - Some think that being inappropriate is silly or fun.Improper upbringing - Not everyone knows they are being inappropriate.Mental illness or neurological condition - An illness may cause someone to act inappropriately. If someone has coprolalia, a symptom of Tourette's Syndrome, a person may suddenly get up and start cursing for seemingly no reason. They have no control over this; it just happens. There are also people who think they are elsewhere and talk to themselves.Peer pressure - Someone might let others influence them to act inappropriately.Psychopathy - Some people simply don't play by the same rules as other people. They may feel they are smarter than others, that rules are for other people, expect to be respected without respecting others, and have trouble controlling themselves.Sense of injustice, anger - When people feel mistreated, they often lash out. That is not an excuse, but it happens. This may be on an individual level, such as unhappiness over a billing statement, or it can be at a community level where a number of people riot over perceived police brutality.Substance abuse - Drugs and alcohol are not excuses, but many people do act inappropriately while under the influence.

In the movie Phoebe In Wonderland what is the disease that Phoebe has?

Gilles de la Tourette syndromePhoebe doesn't have a 'disease' - She has the neuro-developmental disorder Tourette syndrome. TS is partly inherited and affects around 1 in 100, more commonly boys and varies considerably between people. It is usually diagnosed in childhood. Phoebe has symptoms typical of the type of TS where simple overt motor tics (movements) are less prominent but the obsessive-compulsive symptoms and complex tics are more dominant. In people with this phenotype of TS the symptoms tend to be more internalised. Children with TS tend to be bright, quick thinking and often very talkative but often have attention difficulties. Many with TS also have difficulties that are also common in autism especially literal thinking and sometimes problems understanding other's actions, responses, intentions and also social protocol and following 'rules'. Phoebe has many vocal tics as well as the busy and expansive thoughts typical of TS. She doesn't have coprolalia (swearing is a rare aspect of TS) but has vocal tics known as non-obscene socially inappropriate tics (NOSI) and also displays the dysinhibited responses, thoughts and emotional reactivity that characterise the reduced ability to filter neural activity in TS. The rest is all Phoebe's imagination.
