I've never heard of it referred to as you do, but the city of Caen was the original D-Day objective. Various things happened to make this impossible, particularly experienced German troops being in occupation of the city and putting up a vigorous defence.
D-Day was in Normandy, France. The main city involved was Caen.
The city of Caen was a critical point of the landings.

There are dozens of good books about D-Day, certainly enough to fill a large shelf in your city library. -Among the best in my opinion are "The Longest Day" by Cornelius Ryan and "The Steel Wave" by Jeff Shaara.

The day of the landings
The city was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1876. It was named for its founder, Matthias D. Day.
The D-Day invasion occurred in the region of France known as Normandy. The invasion beaches were given the code names Sword, Utah, Omaha, Gold, and Juno. One of the objectives on D-Day was the city of Caen. However the city was not taken for over three months and was the scene of heavy fighting. Please see related link.
Days are labeled D + number. So the day after D-Day would be D+1, the week after D-Day D+7, the month after D-Day D+30, etc.
