johnny is like a younger version of dally and dally doesn't want johnny being like him so when johnny wants to turn himself into the cops then dally doesn't want him to because he said that jail toughens him up and he doesn't want johnny to toughen up because if he does he could make some of the same mistakes dally did when he was younger and grow up to be like dally. but dally doesn't want johnny to be like him when he grows up, dally is sort of a father figure for johnny and doesn't want johnny getting hurt.
