Saul did not have a right relationship, or a close relationship, with the Lord. All he had to affirm his heart was the praise of man, so when David was more praised than he, it really bothered Saul.

God was very important in Davids life as was Bathsheba and Jonathan, Saul's son.
Sauls time was not so good, but king Davids and king Solomons period were the best in Jewish history.

Jesse sent David with some provisions for the three oldest boys, who were in Saul's army. (1Samuel 17:13, 17, 18, 20)
Jonathan was Saul's son. Saul was the King before David became king.
Saul chased David for several years, around 8-10 years. Their conflict began when David defeated Goliath and continued until Saul's death in battle against the Philistines.
David painted many works that had to do with the French Revolution. His painting that called for an end to all of the conflict was called the Rape of the Sabine Women.
God sends an evil spirit to torment Saul (1 Samuel 16:14) and his attendants suggest he send for David, a young warrior famed for his bravery and for his skill with the harp. Saul does so, and makes David one of his armor-bearers. From then on, "whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him."
