When you're writing a story you have to focus on the details and the specific aspects in each dimension that will make it feel real. However, when you're writing a play it's more about the dialogue and characterization and the broader details; the director is the one who must decide on the setting and the smaller more specific details. As the writer you simply produce the script. The filming process is left to the director.
So basically the difference is that you have to focus on every dimension when writing a story, but a screen play is more about dialogue- keep in mind with a play a lot of the character's personality will rely on the actor/actress as well.
Writing a play is like having a dialogue written in words. It is more elaborate. Writing a story is just like writing a paragraph. More free flowing.
"Each of the boys' are writing a different story."The first mistake is to say "Each are." If you're talking about each one, the correct verb is "Each is writing."The second is to try to use an apostrophe to make a plural. The apostrophe indicates possession, not plural. The correct sentence would be "Each of the boys is writing a different story."
A play script consists almost entirely of dialogue.
The play could be based on a true story with the right people plaing each part! A play can be about actual events.
Creative writing is not necessarily writing a story. It means just what it seems to. Fictional story writing is a part of creative writing though.

I'm writing a story is a declaration, a statement.
