Dionysus was the Greek God of Wine, the youngest of the Olympians. His father was Zeus, a god and his mother, the princess Semele, a mortal. He was a demigod (half human half god) at first, but when he created wine he was given the honor of immortality and godship. Hestia, goddess of the Hearth and Home, stepped down from her throne for him since there could be only 12 gods. This upset the balance, since there were now more guys than gals, but it was the best solution they could come up with.
