Public drunkenness is the state of being drunk in public- a public display of drunkenness. Public intoxication laws vary from country to country and state to state. In some jurisdictions the person is taken into protective custody until the drunkenness wears off. IF the person is found to be drunk and disorderly they are subject to arrest.

Short term drunkenness results in blurred vision, slurred speech, flushing in the face, slowed reactions, blood thinning, loss of motor control, and destruction of brain cells. A very, very drunk person can suffer from alcohol poisoning that results in death. Some who experiences long-term drunkenness (as in habitually over a long period of time) experiences all the symptoms of short term drunkenness, plus the destruction of internal organs, most particularly the liver. Those are the physical consequences. There are, however, many devastating emotional, social, fiscal, and cultural consequences of drunkenness as well. Drunkenness/alcoholism is a terrible thing for everyone, not just the person who is drinking.
