Around the Sun. Helios = Sun; so heliocentric is basically the theory, or the point of view, that the Sun is the center, and that planets revolve around the Sun. This is mainly to distinguish it from older theories, that were geocentric - that had the idea that Earth was the center of everything.

In a heliocentric system the Earth revolves around the Sun.

It was the idea first attributed to Copernicus breaking many years of belief in the geocentric system embraced by Ptolemy and Aristotle, where all the stars and planets and sun revolve around the earth, the so called Ptolemaic view.

Heliocentric is used to describe a model of the solar system that has the Sun at the centre. Models with the Earth at the centre are descrined as geocentric.

There are four major models of the solar system:

Geocentric: Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe;

Heliocentric: Copernicus, Kepler.

These four can all predict the movements of the planets among the stars with reasonable accuray. The one that is accepted as correct today is Kepler's, because it is the only one that is consistent with later theoretical discoveries in gravity and the laws of motion.
