Comet (C/2010 X1 (Elenin)) is a long-period comet.
Leonid Elenin was born in 1981.
You can call Elenin, aka C/2010 whatever you wish, but that won't change the controversy surrounding the object. The biggest worry about c/2010, Elenin is that the mass is unknown.
The question is not whether or not Elenin (c/2010) can kill us from toxic gasses, but whether or not its mass is great enough to cause other problems for the planet.
The cast of Goodbye Elenin - 2013 includes: Giorgos Alevizopoulos as Pateras Gerasimos Gotis as Giorgos Thanos Kavadias Babis Kontopanagos as Christos Anna Melkadze as Russian Georgia Panagiotopoulou as Gipsy Woman Kleio Paspaliari as Eleni
the comet Elenin will be an extintion level event arriving on Aug.22-Sept.6th.
Comet Elenin (C/2010 X1) was first discovered on December 10th by Leonid Elenin. I have not yet seen detailed descriptions of its orbit, but early calculations indicate that it will probably be visible to the naked eye in late August or early September 2011. It's not going to hit the Earth; it MAY come within about 0.4 AU but not much closer. That is not proven as we do not know the size of the meteor as NASA have not give us the measurements. NASA have also given a warning to all their employees to make sure their families are safe on October the 16th.
It is supposed to be an "average" comet, but there is much speculation as to whether or not this is true. The mass of the object is still in question, and that helps promote the idea that it may not be a comet.
Comet 'Elenin' essentially fell apart in August 2011, on account of some unusually high solar activity. Those components of it that vaporized quickly dissipated in space. What's left is a cloud of sand, pebbles, stones, and possibly some ice chips, in the comet's original orbit. It was never a threat to Earth, and is even less of a threat now than it ever was.
A non proven theory is that eruption is a defence mechanism of our planet. When "comet elenin" came to near, Mercury fired. Our planet could do the same.
