There are several answers to this question. It depends first on whether you will be assigned there as permanent duty or for training. At best some facts about the post can be provided. See also the links below.

The Physical Layout:

* Fort Sill is comprised of 94,000 acres of the military reservation and the post. * the landscape is primarily low mountains, hills, bluffs, and prairie, with Cache Creek splitting the north side of the post. * It is located in south central Oklahoma, due south of Oklahoma City, and abutting the north boundary of the city of Lawton. * The post is composed of approximately 2,000 buildings: barracks, garrison, equipment and ammunition storage, offices; and 1,415 residential housing. * Troops deployed there average around 16,000. * The reservation is divided into three ranges: West, South, and East, and is used for training and live fire of artillery. * The weather in spring and fall are mild. Summers are hot (1982 temperatures reached 115°F and averaged over 90°F), and winters are cold (snow is not uncommon, but not typical). The post is located in the center of "Tornado Alley," although no serious damage or injury has ever been reported on post. Thunder storms and hail are a more common and serious matter.

* Full service leisure and recreation facilities and activities are available on or near the post. * The Ft. Sill Museum is a center for the History of the Great Plains and Southwest. * Ft. It consists of: # 30th Field Artillery Regiment # Directorate of Training and Doctrine # Joint and Combined Integration Directorate # Quality Assurance Directorate # U.S. Army Field Artillery Training Center # U.S. Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy # U.S. Marine Corps Artillery Detachment * Field Artillery units on Fort Sill previously were organized under Headquarters, III Corps Artillery. These units included Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB ) III Corps Artillery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, 75th Field Artillery Brigade, 212th Field Artillery Brigade, 214th Field Artillery Brigade, and 19th Maintenance Battalion.
