He was known for getting the U.S.A out of depression and for leading our country through World War 2.
Actually Roosevelt was not all that great. He had a lot of people who thought he was great, but was he really? He prolonged the depression. Also the United States was not all that prepared for WWII when it started.
The B 17 was invented in the 1930s but the government only bought a few of them. They should have bought a few hundred.
In his first week Roosevelt stole the peoples gold. They could not even open their safety deposit boxes without a government agent looking over their shoulder. You had to turn in your twenty dollar gold pieces and they gave you a paper $20. What a deal. If you did not hand over your hard earned hard money they sent you to prison. Does this sound like something that a great president would do?
FDR is known for the New Deal that eventually helped the US get out of the great Depression. I suppose the reason he was a great president was because he was able to get reelected twice by popular demand. (He is the only one besides George Washington to have this happen to themselves.)
