The Suite by Cassado for solo cello (1926) is in the key of D. Beginning soulfully in D minor, by the last movement this has become a joyful and energetic D major. This key is very suitable for the cello, as it allows the top two strings, A and D, to be exploited fully as part of the wide range of techniques available on the cello, in particular those that use the many possibilities of the open strings.

This answer is subjective based on opinion. My favorite cello piece (which I have heard used for TV and Movies) is Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera by Vivaldi. (This piece is written for Voice, cello and harpsichord) My first "audition" piece is also widely recognizable. It came from the third Back cello suite. The Bach cello suites are solo pieces that may be familar to some audiences.

FalseIt could be an aria, a cantata, a song.Searching on the word suite doesn't bring up anything vocal. In the 17th century a suite was a set of interrelated pieces for a solo instrument or an orchestra. Bach wrote suites for cello, for violin, for keyboard and for orchestra. A suite could also be a selection of pieces from a larger work, like Handel's Water Music Suite, made of pieces from a large set he wrote to be played as his King's barge floated down the Thames, or his Suite from the Music For The Royal Fireworks.
