Jewish tradition says that when God walked through the Garden of Eden and spoke to Adam and Eve, he did so in the Hebrew language. This tradition suggests that until God made the people of Babel speak a confusion of languages, everyone spoke in the Hebrew language.
Some scholars now believe that the Hebrew language only developed out of a Canaanite dialect during the first millennium BCE, too late for God to have spoken to Adam, Abraham or even Moses in Hebrew. The authors of the Old Testament never really had to address the question of how God spoke to his chosen people, so we do not know.
