HLHS is a life threatening disease that occurs in infants it is not communicable (you cant catch it) the child has to be born with it. Children with HLHS dont have a high survival rate they are born with half of a heart. HLHS stands for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. there are mainly 3 options for this disease you can take the child home and let it die you can wait on a heart transplant list or have three surgeries (talk to your doctor about the surgeries) The oldest HLHS Survivor is now 19 and is in great condition. to learn more about hlhs go to littlehearts.org make sure to donate every cent helps so dont wait

There is no direct relation from solely HLHS to learning problems. The only link could be that during surgery, blood was cut off to the brain (a common occurrence in the Norwood Procedure) which lead to slight brain damage. This could result in a learning defect.Also, the anesthesia during open heart surgery on an infant could affect brain development. But this would be in all cases, not just HLHS
