It was the Romans who called Heracles Hercules, its Roman name. Hercules was the Roman equivalent of Heracles. Needless to say that the Greeks used the name Heracles.
"Hercules" is the Roman name for the Greek god "Heracles" .
Heracles did not "defeat" any of Medusa's brothers and sisters, for they were immortal. Further, the mortal man who killed Medusa with aide of Athena was Perseus - not Heracles.
