It an acronym of Input Message Accountability Data (IMAD) and it is a mandatory unique key given to each wire transfer when using the Federal Reserve Bank Service. It consist of the following information:

Input Cycle Date (YYYYMMDD)

Input Source (8 characters)

Input Sequence Number (6 characters)

It helps to track the wire transfers. Normally the receiving bank will request the IMAD key to credit it to your account.
