What is Islam saying about enmity in Islam because my brother and my sister are going for Hajj this year but they are hesitating to contact me because of some misunderstanding?

One of the main teachings in Islam is to forgive people in order to be forgiven by God. God Commanded forgiveness and tolerance. The concept of forgiveness and tolerance is one of the most fundamental tenets of Islam.

Quran says (meaning English translation):

"Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e don't count on their doings"(Quran, chapter 7, verse 199)

Also, Quran says:
"A good action and a bad action are not the same. Repel the bad with something better and, if there is enmity between you and someone else, he will be like a bosom friend."(Quran, chapter 41, verse 34)

God has always described forgiveness as a superior quality and, in one verse, He promised that such behaviour will be rewarded. The Quran verse is:

"The repayment of a bad action is one equivalent to it. But if someone pardons and puts things right, his reward is with God. Certainly He does not love wrongdoers."

(Quran, chapter 42, verse 40)

In another Quran verse, God describes whom He loves.

"those who give in times of both ease and hardship, those who control their rage and pardon other people - God loves the good-doers"

(Quran, chapter 3, verse 134)

God has revealed in the Quran that it is virtuous behavior to forgive someone even if he has done wrong. One verse on the subject reads:

"... You will never cease to come upon some act of treachery on their part, except for a few of them. Yet pardon them, and overlook. God loves good-doers."

(Quran, chapter 5, verse 13)

All of the above shows that the moralities of Islam brings to the world, whether Muslims or non-Muslims, the virtues of love, peace, and harmony.

From the above it is understood that Islam calls Muslims to show forgiveness, tolerance, and rebelling the bad with better saying and better doing when dealing with people regardless their beliefs, cultures, colors, etc..

However, if Islam calls for showing forgiveness, tolerance, and rebelling the bad with the better to all people, then it is more required between relatives. Relatives should never break the ties among themselves. Otherwise, they will be severely punished by God. God says that He gave a name for relatives as part of His name (relatives in Arabic is named Rahm and God one name is Rahman) and the one who breaks the relatives ties God will break ties with this one. He says that who starts reconciliation and forgiveness among relatives will be more rewarded.

One more teachings and requirements for those going on Hajj. Before leaving their country for Hajj, one should request forgiveness of all people that he knows, and in particular parents, family, and relatives.
