This is a scale of temperature which takes Absolute Zero as the starting point. The size of the unit is the same as on the Celsius scale. Thus Absolute Zero Celsius is -273, whilst on the Kelvin scale it is zero, and the freezing point of water is +273.

Lord Kelvin was a scientist in Scotland at the end of the 19th century.

Lord Kelvin(1824-1907) was a Scotsman. He was a physicistwho worked on many important research projects including the laws of thermodynamics, maritime compass and electricity. He also realized that there was a limit to the lower value of temperature. The Kelvin temperature scale is named in his honour. The zero of the Kelvin scale is called absolute zero and coincides with -273.15 ºC. The graduations of the Kelvin scale have the same magnitude as the graduations on the Celsius scale.

A Kelvin is the basic unit of temperature in the SI (metric) system. Its symbol is K.

It has the same size as one degree Celsius, but zero on the Kelvin scale is absolute zero, the lowest possible temperature, at which atomic movement would stop.

On the Celsius scale, absolute zero (0 K) is about -273.16 oC.
